1. Information we collect
If you create a free research account, we may collect your name, email address, organization, role category, research-interest selections, saved filters, alert preferences, correction submissions, export requests, and API-key requests.
2. Information we do not need
We do not require client names, matter names, billing information, phone numbers, personal mailing addresses, or confidential legal-strategy information to access core research materials.
3. How we use information
We use account information to provide optional services: saved filters, source-linked alerts, expanded exports, API access, reviewer workflows, correction tracking, and site-quality improvements.
4. What remains public
Core SMU CGI research content, methodology, source links, firm pages, opinion pages, source-status labels, Bluebook citations, and basic exports are available without registration.
5. No sale of data
SMU CGI does not sell registration data.
6. Watchlists and saved filters
Saved filters and watchlists are optional. Users should not store confidential client information or matter names in saved filters or private notes.
7. Correction submissions
If you submit a correction, SMU CGI may use the submitted source URL, proposed correction, and explanation to evaluate and document the correction. Public correction logs may identify the corrected field and source basis. Submitters may choose whether to be publicly credited.
8. Email preferences
Users may unsubscribe from non-essential alerts. Transactional emails related to account security, correction submissions, reviewer assignments, or API access may still be sent as needed.
9. Data security
SMU CGI uses reasonable administrative and technical safeguards for account information. No system can guarantee absolute security.
